Development/Assessment Centers
Managers Studio can help you set up and run your own Assessment / Development Centre.
There is no substitute for objectively observing and systematically measuring how people actually perform "on the ground". A well designed Assessment Centre is the most effective tool available for assessing individuals in both individual and group based environments for selection or development. Observers can be external or internal to the organisation, in which case Managers Studio would provide specific training for the latter..
The organisation of an Assessment / Development Centre would typically involve:
- Setting target objectives.
- Aligning competencies with observable behaviours.
- Defining assessment criteria matrix.
- Designing activities and exercises.
- Administrating the process.
- Training internal observers in the use of the agreed assessment criteria and parameters.
- Providing assistance with the organisation’s internal communication plan.
- Delivery of individual dossiers and feedback.
- Providing assistance and coaching with individual development plans
The Essential features of an Assessment / Development Centre include
1. Observation of the behaviour associated with specific key competencies. The Development Centre activities are designed to take people out of their “comfort zone”. This, combined with direct feedback, allows them to identify both.
2. Exercises and evaluation techniques, typically involving the participants completing a range of exercises which simulate the activities carried out in the target job.
3. Guarantee that various observers contrast findings in each competence, for each participant.
4. Each participant should be assessed by at least two observers in each activity or exercise.
5. The observers should apply consistent assessment standards and criteria.
6. The observers draft reports on the observed behaviour systematically. Final reports include statistical data with qualitative data and comments provided by the panel of observers.
Tasks and Responsibilities of the Observers
- Observe the participant’s behaviour.
- Systematically and objectively take note of what they see.
- Classify the behaviour in competencies and /or dimensions and evaluate accordingly based on the evidence.
- Debate and discuss all scores and results in order to reach consensus and integrate all the data available immediately upon completion of the activities and exercises.
Managers Studio’s on-line Development Centre administrator feature allows us to provide instantaneous and individualised feed-back and statistical results on the competencies evaluated.
